Legislative Conference

Who Can Attend?

The NPA Legislative Conference is open to all current NPA pawnbroker members.

Why Should I Attend?

Make your voices heard! Your participation in the NPA Legislative Conference is more important than ever and crucial in the effort to protect our industry. Tell your story to members of Congress and their staff.

The conference is designed to build and reinforce relationships between you, the constituents, and your members of Congress and their staff. Your participation helps create a greater understanding by Congress of the important role the pawn industry plays in serving the financial needs of Americans.

What Should I Expect?

Attendees arrive in Washington, DC, on Monday, April 23.

NPA members are welcome to join the NPA board of Directors meeting and Government Relations Committee meeting during the afternoon on Monday.

On Tuesday, April 24, the day will begin with a breakfast and a guest speaker who will give an overview of ‘what’s happening’ in Congress. Cliff Andrews, CapCity Advocates, our NPA lobbyist, will give a presentation on ”Grass Tops” followed by a full briefing by the NPA Government Relations Committee to prepare attendees for Hill visits on Tuesday afternoon.

All attendees will then attend a de-briefing reception in the evening. The evening reception provides an opportunity for all attendees to get to know their fellow pawnbrokers and board of directors as well as to provide valuable feedback and updates on their afternoon visits with congressional members. This is one of the most significant aspects of our Legislative Conference. Your attendance and assessment of your Hill visits are of utmost importance in providing direction for our advocacy efforts.

If you are pursuing your Certified Pawn Professional (CPP) designation, or would like to begin, a course will be available on Wednesday, April 25 following the Legislative Conference.

All attendees who will not be participating in the CPP course, will be free to depart DC and return home or enjoy day in our nation’s capital!
